LittleBigPlanet.. LittleBigDeal? by sadd3j

Here I am.. opening the floodgates.. but.. I don’t see what the big deal about LittleBigPlanet is about?

Am I missing some fundamental awesomeness?

I’ve watched some videos and trailers and stuff and just don’t understand the huge hype behind it.

Is it the fact that it has an advanced level editor? I guess just personally the ability to create levels and stuff isn’t that appealing. I didn’t buy it to spend hours and hours making my own random-puzzle level.

I don’t even see the huge appeal as a puzzle game either.. it doesn’t seem to have any interesting twist that makes it a cool puzzle game or anything.

Is it the graphics? That’s probably the only part I find impressive and the only draw for me.. but even then, is there a story or anything?

To me it just feels like LBP is a tech demo with a level editor that maybe fun for a couple of hours to look at the eye candy.. am I missing the concept? Please.. enlighten me.

Maybe its a .. you gotta play it to see.. thing?

Secret Lake Fishing by sadd3j

second half of photos tomorrow..

My back is absolutely destroyed right now as I sit at work, but the trip was a blast. I went with 6 other guys and a girl on a overnight fishing trip to a highly secretive lake somewhere north of Barrie. There’s no road access to the lake, and we only saw one cottage on it, with a seaplane docked to it.

The rock that everyone hit

To get to this lake requires driving off road, up some ravine which is just a bunch of rocks (YFA will be familiar with the kind of driving I’m talking about), around these foot deep puddles, and then parking on a giant rock.

After parking, it’s about a 20 minute portage through a maze of forest and muddy paths until you get to the lake. Once in the lake its about a 90 minute paddle to the other side of the lake. After that, its a very short portage, a quick paddle across a marsh, another short portage, and then you’re finally in this apparent promised land of fishing.

The key was not dropping the canoe while taking the photo..

Crazy weather all weekend

Once we finally got there, I will admit, the fishing was pretty awesome. Definitely not often fished.. the only fish we could catch were bass, and the smallest was still about 11 inches. The regular size was about 13-14 inches with a few huge ones. We ate about ten of them for dinner and lunch the next day. I think I pulled in somewhere around 8-10 decent-sized fish, releasing most of them.

As the sun started to lower in the sky, we started scouting out for a campsite, we checked out this one spot with a kind of hill on it, which would have been nice for photos, but no flat area for pitching tents, so we moved on to the next “open” area and it served pretty well, but not much for the way of photos.

We ate for pretty much 3-4 hours, pork chops, side kicks, sausages, shrimp, the fish we had caught done up in some new replacement for fish crisp, did the regular camping stuff and then went to sleep as it started to rain. The next day was more eating, fishing and then the journey back.

Nothing too extraordinary, but awesome chance to get away and relax and catch up with a couple of friends.

TPX Industries by sadd3j

Welcome to the new TPX blog.. nothing spectacularly new.. everything works the same, primarily a cosmetic update.. something a bit easier to read and lighter in colours.

Thumbnails now default to 500px for the biggest side, and I recommend that we go with that. It makes it friendlier to browse a post without needing to click in. However feel free to upload bigger versions so that if someone DOES click, they can get a big version.

We’re now iPhone friendly, it won’t affect regular browser usage, but if you point an iPhone at tpx.icestorm.ca, you’ll get a customized interface:

Chateau Torquois.. 5 months later by sadd3j

It’s been 5 months since I’ve taken possession of this condo. It still has no couch, has curtains taped up in the bedroom, tools and paint piled up in the corners, 2 chairs and no trash cans. But.. I guess you just can’t rush these things.. especially.. with no money =p

However.. things continue to move forward at a decent clip. All photos are taken with a 50mm to preserve perspective and not make it appear as if we own a 2500 sq ft apartment.

Last night after much frustration, I put up the first “test” window coverings. I will place an order for the living room coverings within the week.. they’ll be the same but a very light yellow (these are a very light grey).

Shades of Frustration

Papery, with a bit of texture!

A lamp Sam and I bought at Structube. It’s not too great on the quality side, but it looks good when not touched and angled specifically.. haha

The Julia Lamp

Bought earlier tonight, a dining table! Again from IKEA.. the docksta.. the poor man’s Saarinen Tulip table! Now to find some chairs.. and a pendant lamp to hang above the table. Currently filling in for centerpiece duty is Maximus the fern. You can see he’s grown since we got him (a few posts down)

Docksta

For an idea of how the kitchen/living room is laid out.. still needs paint and window coverings and to wall mount the TV.

Chateau!

And finally also bought tonight.. the first trash can.. a simple yet overpriced bag holder which goes on the inside of the cabinet door.. woo Simple Human!
