it seems, every endeavor we get ourselves into becomes a money hole, the most recent hole tpx has dug up, is backcountry camping. the startup costs of all these activities seems to be very high and as i was eating today and reading an article off the economist, it was titled “ford: another fine mess” as you all know, ford has been struggling to reduce their losses in the recent years, they stated sales in the last quarter was down $1.6B

but where it gets interesting is when it talks about fords interest in divesting jaguar and land rover, two brands that at best would get them about $8B, it talks about how jaguar is a glamorous money pit. which was really funny because it reminded me of how we open money holes..money pits, however you’d like to call it, i’ll leave you with an excerpt from the article…

And anyone taking on Jaguar would need good reason to believe that the future will be different from the recent past. For Ford, Jaguar has been a glamorous money pit. Having splashed out $2.5 billion to buy Jaguar in 1989, an incredible figure to industry-watchers aware of the marque’s precarious history and geriatric factories, Ford has been hosing it with cash ever since. It refuses to say how much, but the cost of creating modern manufacturing facilities and developing new models, nearly all of which have sold less well than hoped, must be many times the original purchase price.

the lesson learned from ford? we should try and make sure tpx doesn’t get itself into too many money pits…heh

so i was reading the keynote from WWDC…and scrolling up it said pricings for leopard:

basic version: $129
and i was like what the..theres a premium version too?!
premium version: $129

and im like ooOo i see where this is going….and then it said this

“Leopard shipping in October. Basic version, $129. Premium version, $129. Business version, $129, Enterprise version $129. Ultimate version, $129.”

oh steve…you joker…..
