YFA Recommends – How Many Kings by YFA

Week 2 of music recommendations.
This week’s recommendation is a little complex – multiple versions of the same song, “How Many Kings” by a Canadian band called “Downhere”. The song is not super new (think 2007 or 2008), I led it once for Christmas last year at church during communion. Here’s the original version.
ORIGINAL VERSION

And then I found interesting arrangements – (I love arranging songs!). The original band “re-imagined” the song in a darker, somber tone, and here’s the result, which is the version I led for Christmas this year during communion… this version is actually very hard to put together and play. You’ll need to hit play in the top right corner where the music player is, since I can’t find a youtube link for it.

The third arrangement is an acoustic arrangement that the band did when they visited a local Seattle Christian radio station (Spirit 105.3) You can see they sound quite amazing live too, even with less than ideal equipment.
ACOUSTIC VERSION

Last but not least, I wanted to present a church cover of this song – not my church 😛 but a church in Florida which I randomly came across – they just uploaded this video, and they sounded so good I thought it was the original band for a sec…

That’s all for this week! Up ahead next week is my pick of a new worship song for 2010… definitely anticipating leading it next year!

YFA recommends – Owl City by YFA

My turn to do music recommendations!
Up first is “Owl City” – they apparently are a Christian group that does secular stuff. This is their first radio track, I believe – definitely have a “Postal Service” sound.

Taylor 414ce Spring Limited by teewee

I’ve been meaning to do a post on this, but never had the time. Finally had the chance to grab some photos of the guitar. It plays really nice. Nicely balanced sound, not too warm and bassy, but not too tinny. Perhaps I’ll write a more detailed review down the road, for now, you’ll have to settle with just a collage !

(I realized I’ve filed this under ‘toys’, but I’d like to think of this guitar as more than a toy =P)

edit: as yfa pointed out, I did not include a full body shot of the guitar in the collage, this is for the simple reason that, I don’t know where my guitar stand is and so couldn’t prop the guitar up onto anything.
