The Fray – You Found Me by YFA
Since teewee hasn’t posted any new SOTD for a while I thought I would share a song. But this is quite a different genre than what he has been sharing lately.
So heard the new The Fray song on the radio and thought it was pretty good. Looked up what the song meant and apparently:
You Found Me is a tough song for me. Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you’re let down, sometimes you’re the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on… It demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen. Sometimes the tunnel has a light at the end, but usually they just look black as night. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest.
Thought that was pretty cool… I always knew The Fray were Christians, so I decided to look up more on them. Apparently Christianity Today did an interview with them in 2006. What they said was really cool and inspiring. Apparently the band was largely formed in Denver churches where the band led worship (so they weren’t just “Christians” but they actually served in worship too!). And “The band avoided Christian record labels, saying God called them to the secular market instead.”
I always wondered what Christian secular bands (like Switchfoot or Lifehouse per se) would say for people saying why are they doing secular music. I think they gave one of the best answers I have heard – read the interview if you want the full details, but basically the answer is their jobs are musicians – they are not pastors, not preachers, not missionaries – just like a Christian painter does not have to paint Jesus in every picture, a Christian musician does not have to sing about Jesus in every song. Paint (or sing) well enough and people will ask you why and how you do it.
Anyhow just thought all this was very inspiring and wanted to share. The song’s arrangement was also very inspiring on how I can incorporate it into worship too…. hehe.
