Song of the Day (#4) by teewee
Haven’t posted anything in a while, so here’s the SOTD. Last night as I was studying, I thought of the office and thought of this scene:
So with some searching, found it was from ABBA – Take a Chance on Me, its so catchy..mmm
No commentsThe Fray – You Found Me by YFA
Since teewee hasn’t posted any new SOTD for a while I thought I would share a song. But this is quite a different genre than what he has been sharing lately.
So heard the new The Fray song on the radio and thought it was pretty good. Looked up what the song meant and apparently:
You Found Me is a tough song for me. Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you’re let down, sometimes you’re the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on… It demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen. Sometimes the tunnel has a light at the end, but usually they just look black as night. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest.
Thought that was pretty cool… I always knew The Fray were Christians, so I decided to look up more on them. Apparently Christianity Today did an interview with them in 2006. What they said was really cool and inspiring. Apparently the band was largely formed in Denver churches where the band led worship (so they weren’t just “Christians” but they actually served in worship too!). And “The band avoided Christian record labels, saying God called them to the secular market instead.”
I always wondered what Christian secular bands (like Switchfoot or Lifehouse per se) would say for people saying why are they doing secular music. I think they gave one of the best answers I have heard – read the interview if you want the full details, but basically the answer is their jobs are musicians – they are not pastors, not preachers, not missionaries – just like a Christian painter does not have to paint Jesus in every picture, a Christian musician does not have to sing about Jesus in every song. Paint (or sing) well enough and people will ask you why and how you do it.
Anyhow just thought all this was very inspiring and wanted to share. The song’s arrangement was also very inspiring on how I can incorporate it into worship too…. hehe.

teewee and liu picked this up first, and so finally I caved and went ahead and picked it up (via iPhone no less) for $8 on iTunes. All but one of the songs are live versions of songs from her two normal albums and it’s made up of 8 tracks.
PSEUDO-TECHNICAL
Sounds great on the home system, as well as these Sony MDR-7506 cans. Clear, typical reverbed concert sound. Sound stage is spaced out a bit for that binaural feeling. The Sound of Silence stands up above the rest, which might be biased, since it’s also probably my favourite track. In it, the two guitars are quite spaced, so you can really differentiate and pinpoint the different guitars. Brooke’s voice is great as usual, and the recording clarity is pristine enough that you can hear all the annunciations and when she opens and closes her mouth hah. The bass is also quite prominent throughout the album. +1!
ENJOYABILITY
Most of the songs have a little bit of a different intro. You can hear someone yell something at the start of Arithmetic and Brooke chuckling. C.S. Lewis was the start of the set and so has a 2 minute extended intro with the instruments coming in one at a time with a pretty cool guitar/bass riff combo. Definitely one of the highlights of the album. I have a soft spot for well covered classics, and the fact that it’s a “new” track from Brooke, The Sound of Silence probably stands out as my favourite track. It’s very simple, starts out with two guitars and Brooke, then some really deep bass comes in with some keys. It’s a really warm rendition and comfortable to listen to.
Overall, very easy to listen to, mellow and warm throughout.
I will rate it.. arbitrarily 5 out of 5 TProlls.
